2026 World Cup final set for 3pm ET kick-off: Full tournament schedule and fixtures
The World Cup final will take place at 3pm (ET) at MetLife Stadium on July 19, 2026, FIFA confirmed, in a move that is likely to renew the debate about tensions between player welfare and commercial priorities.
MetLife Stadium is located in East Rutherford, New Jersey, and it is an open venue without a roof, meaning that players and fans will be exposed to the elements. The FIFA Club World Cup last summer played its semi-finals and final at MetLife, with all three games kicking off at 3pm ET.
The World Cup final is therefore one of only two of its MetLife games slated to take place at 3pm, a time which also provides a premium slot for a European television audience. FIFA makes the decisions about schedules and kick-off times.

Let's hear from Alex Lasry, CEO of the NY/NJ host committee, speaking to The Athletic today after the draw:
💬 “"I'm thrilled. We got every match that we wanted and were hoping for. It was clear FIFA wants to put the biggest stars on the biggest stage. And it doesn't get bigger than New York, New Jersey.
“For us, we are thrilled. Having the biggest ones are great, but it also fun having an Ecuador or having two Senegal games, because upsets and Cinderella stories are also what makes sports fun.
“For us having the biggest teams but then also having some fun potential upsets creates a lot of really good storylines that we get to use … basically just thrilled that we were able to get every matchup that we wanted.”

With all that said, I'll hand over to super Nancy Froston to run you through the full schedule for each and every group at the tournament.
You're welcome.
Just chatted with Manolo Zubiria (pictured left), the FIFA's 2026 World Cup ‘chief tournament officer’. When asked about the World Cup final's 3 p.m. kickoff time and concerns about extreme afternoon heat, he said:
💬 “It's the final of the World Cup, the more people you can bring to this game around the world (via television), the better …
“There'll be measures to mitigate the heat.
“And,” he continued, “as you've seen, there's not that many other games in times that will raise questions. So, we managed to leverage it and to balance it out well.”
Here's how, when and where England's World Cup matches will play out.
Playing Ghana in Boston should be lively!
