The World Baseball Classic is nearly finished, and despite an underperforming offense, the United States will be playing in the championship game. After defeating the Dominican Republic 2-1 in the semis, the U.S. will face the winner of tonight’s Italy vs. Venezuela game for the 2026 title.
Italy has yet to lose a game this tournament, and even defeated the United States 8-6 in pool play. The U.S. would obviously love a second opportunity to take them down, but Venezuela boasts no slouches either. Not only is their roster brimming with MLB talent, but they defeated previously undefeated Japan in the quarterfinals, proving themselves a serious contender for a WBC title.
Regardless of who the United States will face in the title game, fans are sure to be intrigued by the matchup. This year’s World Baseball Classic has drawn more viewers than any in years past. So, a U.S. win would certainly be icing on the cake.
