What will Bertha bring? – USA Today

July 21, 2026 by quixnet

Welcome to the Daily Briefing. Felecia Wellington Radel here, bringing you the news to know on Tuesday. Start with these reads:
Bertha, the second named storm of the Atlantic hurricane season, intensified from a tropical depression to a tropical storm Monday, according to the National Hurricane Center.
Tropical Storm Bertha continued its slow slog Tuesday morning and remains on track to bring heavy rain, storm surge, and gusty winds to several states along the Gulf Coast over the next couple of days.
Other parts of the United States are also seeing extreme weather. A series of potent thunderstorms could bring flash flooding to the Midwest and East Coast, forecasters say, as the middle of the country contends with a potentially record-breaking heat dome today and lingering, toxic wildfire smoke.
