Video shows tiny deer taking on a massive rhino at a Polish zoo – USA Today

January 13, 2026 by quixnet

A true David and Goliath story happened earlier this month at a Polish zoo when a tiny muntjac deer took on a massive 1.7 ton Indian rhino and – against all odds – seemingly won.
The video was filmed in the Wroclaw Zoo in Wroclaw, some 190 miles west of the country’s capital, Warsaw. Zookeepers said in a Facebook post on Jan. 8 that the small muntjac deer was defending its mate and that the large rhino named Marusia was a gentle giant with “angelic patience.”
“Someone probably forgot to look in the mirror this morning,” the zoo said, talking about the tiny deer. “Who would have thought that such a warrior sleeps in this tiny body?”
In the video, the little deer is seen headbutting the rhino, who stands its ground before chasing the deer around the enclosure they share. In a Facebook post on Jan. 10, the zoo called the rhino and deer the “most famous duo on the Internet at the moment.”
