A news reporter in New Zealand had a rough day at work when a seagull suddenly hit her in the face while she was on camera.
According to a Facebook post from Jessica Tyson, a reporter for “Te Ao with Moana,” she was filming in Auckland for a story about the impact of fast fashion in New Zealand when she was struck in the face by a seagull aided by strong winds.
“It’s beak or claws must have hit me because I was left with a scar above my left eye below my eyebrow – just missing my eyeball luckily,” Tyson wrote in her post. “Afterwards the bird looked fine and rejoined their friends close by.”
“Te Ao with Moana” is a current affairs show hosted by New Zealand singer-songwriter Moana Maniapoto.
In the video shared by Tyson, she is seen filming a second take when the seagull abruptly appears and strikes her in the face. After screaming an expletive in reaction to the unprovoked incident, a member of the film crew approaches to check up on her.
“You’re bleeding,” the film crew member says in the video. Following that, the clip cuts to a photo of Tyson after the incident, with blood running down the side of her cheek.
Tyson wrote in her Facebook post that she “rushed to a nearby corporate office in downtown Auckland to clean up before continuing filming.”
