KEY TAKEAWAYS:
- Academy of the Sacred Heart in New Orleans ranked as Louisiana’s top private school in the latest U.S. News & World Report rankings.
- U.S. News evaluated 126 private schools across Louisiana to determine the state’s top-performing campuses.
- The top six schools span New Orleans, Metairie, Covington, Alexandria and New Iberia and feature college-preparatory curricula with AP offerings.
- Annual tuition among the top-ranked schools ranges from about $5,100 to $21,000, with many schools offering financial aid programs.
While attending private school does not automatically mean receiving a better education than one would get at public school, there are some benefits to a private education.
At private schools, students typically experience smaller class sizes, individualized attention, specialized programs and curriculums designed for college preparation.
One of the drawbacks to private education, though, can be yearly tuition costs. Many schools offer financial aid programs, however.
