The third round is in progress with Sam Burns (-3) as the solo leader trailed by J.J. Spaun (-2) and Viktor Hovland (-1). They are the only three golfers still under-par for this tournament.

No. 13 was rough for Rory McIlroy and Xander Schauffele. McIlroy’s ball was plugged in the bunker next to the green, while Schauffele’s lie was so bad that he had to play away from the hole. McIlroy hit a beautiful chip to make par, but Schauffele had to settle for bogey.
Scottie Scheffler with a solid par on the third hole, not much going on there. That’s a positive step after he bogeyed the hole the first two days.
Don’t count Jon Rahm out of this. The 2021 U.S. Open champion is seven shots back on +4 but has the quality to drag himself back into title contention with a strong round today.
He’s just teed off alongside Nick Taylor and it’s a strong start for the Spaniard. His 314-yard drive finds the left fairway and he then makes it to the front of the green with his approach shot. That leaves a tricky putt down the slope, but he lags it to within a few inches and starts his third round with a solid par.
That's a scintillating birdie from Robert MacIntyre. The Scotsman drained a 19-foot putt on No. 6 to improve to 2 under for the day.
MacIntyre, who represented Team Europe at the Ryder Cup in 2023, is now 2 over for the tournament and is the closest to the lead of the notable golfers on the course. Don't count him out!
Matt Fitzpatrick is one of five former champions who made the cut for the weekend, and you just have to love to see his fight today. He shot rounds of 74-73 to get into the weekend on the number, but he is griding through today’s round at even par with a birdie on No. 17 to get to even par for the day.

Here’s the latest course information from Oakmont.
Putting Green Speed – “Putting green speeds ranged from the mid to upper 14s on the Stimpmeter and will settle to low 14s as the day goes on. We triple cut all greens this morning and a fourth cut was performed on any green that was unable to be cut last night due to the suspension of play. All greens will have been triple rolled prior to the start of Round 3 in an effort to maintain targeted speeds.”
Tees and Fairways – “Due to the rain and soft conditions, tees and fairways were not mowed prior to Round 3. Total rainfall yesterday and overnight was 1”.”
Today’s yardage: Front 9 – 3,737. Back 9 – 3,594. Total – 7,331.
Mr. bounceback is at it again. After the three-putt bogey on No. 1, Scottie Scheffler just drained a 14-foot birdie putt on No. 2 to get right back to even par for the day and 4 over for the round. Scheffler leads the PGA Tour in bouncebacks (a birdie following a bogey), and he just showed it again on No. 2.
Tony Finau isn't going to win the U.S. Open. But he made one of the putts of this tournament.
On No. 10, the American drained a 56-foot birdie putt to improve to 10 over for the week. It's been a tough tournament for Finau but that's certainly a bright spot, drawing some roars from the spectators.
A solid opening nine of the third round for Marc Leishman. He goes out with a 3 under 32, sitting at 3-over-par for the tournament.
Leishman has four birdies to one bogey on his card. He's missed just two fairways and two greens. Can the Aussie keep it going?
Not the start that Scottie Scheffler wanted/needed. He was in perfect position off the tee and in the middle of the green in two shots. But his first putt was timid, and his par putt was simply not good. It’s a bogey to start, and he’s at 5 over for the tournament, eight shots off the lead.

Ryan Gerard has made a blistering start to the back nine with birdies on 10 and 11. He’s -3 for his round and +4 for the tournament.
A whopping eight players out on the course are now under par for their third rounds, which will give the leaders sat waiting nervously in the clubhouse some encouragement.
Rory McIlroy and Xander Schauffele can’t seem to get much going. They’re having solid rounds: Schauffele (1 under) and McIlroy (2 over). But they are so far back that they need something special to make tomorrow really count. It’s called moving day for a reason, and they’re not moving much.
That it’s taking the first few groups of the day at least four hours to get around Oakmont is not a great sign for pace of play the rest of the day. As Scottie Scheffler said Friday, “It just takes time to hit that many golf shots.”
Oh my word! Jordan Spieth narrowly misses a birdie putt on the par-5 fourth hole.
The American burns the edge of a six-foot putt, resulting in a par. Spieth remains at 6 over for the tournament but needed that birdie to kickstart his third round.
We had a message earlier from Jonathan K, who pointed out that Cam Davis did exceptionally well yesterday to shoot a 73 to beat the cut while hitting just a solitary fairway, ranking 156 out of 156 in that category.
But things haven’t gone the Australian’s way today. A triple-bogey on the ninth kickstarted an absolutely torrid run of double bogey, bogey, bogey, bogey, bogey. A par on the 15th has stemmed the bleeding a little bit but he has fallen to +18.

It's been a strong opening nine for Marc Leishman in his third round. Through his first six holes, the Aussie recorded three birdies.
But his round's positive momentum halted with a bogey at the par-4 seventh. Not for long though.
Leishman bounced back, chipping in for birdie from the left bunker (49 feet away) on the long par-3 eighth. He is 3 under for the day and 3 over for the tournament.
