Twelve of the best regional hospitals in the country are in Missouri, according to US News – Springfield News-Leader

August 27, 2025 by quixnet

U.S. News and World Report released its ranking of the best regional hospitals in the U.S., and several from Missouri made the list.
More than 500 general hospitals — as opposed to specialty hospitals — were recognized on this year’s list. Hospitals needed to earn a high-performing rating in at least nine procedures and conditions to make the cut.
“Across service lines and in quality measure after quality measure, the hospitals in this group collectively define excellence,” U.S. News and World Report said.
Here are the Show Me State’s best regional hospitals, according to U.S. News and World Report.
St. Louis’s Barnes-Jewish Hospital took the number one spot for the best in the state, including nationally ranking in 11 out of 14 specialties.
Not only that, but four other hospitals in the BJC Health System also made the top 10 — Missouri Baptist Medical Center, Saint Luke’s Hospital of Kansas City, Saint Luke’s East Hospital and Christian Hospital.
“We are very pleased to see multiple BJC hospitals and an abundance of clinical specialties recognized once again by U.S. News & World Report,” BJC Health System CEO Rich Liekweg said in a news release. “This honor shines a well-deserved spotlight on our exceptional caregivers, and on their unwavering commitment to delivering extraordinary care to our patients.”
A hospital qualifies as a regional hospital for the best regional hospital list if it offers a full range of general medical and surgical services, achieves at least eight high-performing ratings in the Best Hospitals procedures and conditions, and has five more high-performing ratings than evaluated ratings across those procedures and conditions.
In each region, hospitals ranked on the Best Hospitals Honor Roll scored higher than those not on the list, regardless of their point totals. If multiple Honor Roll hospitals were in the same region, they were tied for the top position.
Hospitals in each region were ranked based on their points. They earned two points for each of the 11 data-driven Best Hospitals specialties where they achieved a national ranking. Additionally, hospitals gained one point for each of the 21 procedures and conditions in which they were rated “High Performing.” Hospitals lost one point for each procedure or condition where they received a rating of “Evaluated.”
