Donald Trump is now onboard Air Force One and heading for Michigan.
The president is visiting Selfridge Air National Guard Base before he takes to the stage at Macomb Community College, in the north of Detroit, for a rally.
It’ll be his first visit to the battleground state since he won the election back in November.
Among the questions put to Donald Trump outside the White House just now was who he thought should be the new pope.
Cardinals will meet next week in a secret conclave to elect the new head of the Catholic Church following the death of Pope Francis.
Smiling as he heard the question, Trump responded: “As pope? I’d like to be pope. That would be my number one choice.”
He went on to say he didn’t have a preference for who should be the new pontiff but suggested Timothy Dolan, Archbishop of New York, might be a good choice.
“I don’t know. I don’t have a preference,” he said. “But I must say we have a cardinal out of a place called New York who is very good, so we’ll see what happens.”

The president said he had a “good call” with Amazon’s “very nice” chief Jeff Bezos this morning, a conversation we reported on earlier (see 5.35pm post).
The call follows reports that Trump complained to Bezos about a report that Amazon planned to display prices that showed the impact of tariffs, which the online shopping giant denied.
“He solved the problem very quickly and he did the right thing,” Trump added.
After speaking to reporters, Trump boarded Marine One, headed for Joint Base Andrews and Air Force One, which will take him to Michigan.
Perhaps the most jaw-dropping moment from Donald Trump’s return to the White House came when Volodymyr Zelenskyy visited in February.
The Ukrainian president was expected to sign a long-awaited minerals deal, signalling a reset in relations with the US, but his visit was spectacularly cut short.
In scenes that shocked the world, Trump told Zelenskyy “you’re gambling with World War Three”, while vice president JD Vance accused Ukraine’s president of not being thankful to the US.

In more positive scenes, Trump and Zelenskyy found time to sit down for an intense-looking chat at the funeral of Pope Francis on 26 April, which seemed to create an atmosphere for talking of peace.
Trump followed that by posting on Truth Social, wondering whether Putin has been playing him along.
But whatever happens next, it seems likely that Trump-Zelenskyy showdown in the Oval Office will be remembered for a long time.

Shoppers in Denmark are boycotting Coca-Cola in a backlash against Donald Trump’s erratic foreign and trade policies, according to the Danish brewer Carlsberg.
Carlsberg, which bottles Coca-Cola in Denmark, said it had seen Coke’s sales volumes decline while rival drinks gain market share.
Jacob Aarup-Andersen, Carlsberg chief executive, said: “There is a level of consumer boycott around the US brands… and it’s the only market where we’re seeing that to a large extent.”

The US Senate today voted 67-29 to confirm David Perdue as America’s new ambassador to China.
His appointment comes at a time of increasing tension between Washington and Beijing following the pair’s tit-for-tat trade war triggered by Donald Trump’s “Liberation Day” tariffs.
Perdue, a former Republican senator from Georgia who is known as a China “hawk”, previously lived in Hong Kong during a 40-year career as an international business executive.
Last year, he condemned Chinese President Xi Jinping as a “modern-day emperor,” writing in an essay that Beijing wanted to “destroy capitalism and democracy”.
During his confirmation hearing this month, Perdue said the US approach to China must be “nuanced, nonpartisan, and strategic”.

Donald Trump has visited his golf clubs a total of 28 times during his first 100 days in office and spent 12 of his first 14 weekends at one of his properties in Florida, New Jersey or Virginia, according to our US colleagues at NBC News.
His second-term playing time has already easily outpaced his first-term record, which saw a total of 18 golf trips in the first 100 days.
The president’s favourite course, without doubt this year, has been West Palm Beach, near his Mar-a-Lago base. He’s teed off there 18 times during his first 100 days.
In one notable moment, Trump drew criticism for using official White House communications to announce his win in the Senior Club Championship in Jupiter, Florida, days after his tariff announcements sent stock markets reeling.

We’re so far yet to grab a glimpse of Donald Trump on his 100th day in office, but that might soon be about to change.
The US president is due to leave the White House shortly and board Marine One at around 2.10pm (6.10pm UK time).
From there, he’ll head to Joint Base Andrews and board Air Force One before flying to Michigan for his rally later this evening.
We’re not expecting to hear from Trump as he departs Washington, but we’ll bring you the latest if he does choose to make comments.
Mexico’s President Claudia Sheinbaum says her country has received almost 39,000 deported immigrants from the US since Donald Trump returned to the White House in January.
It’s a significant decrease from last year, when Mexico took around 52,000 immigrants deported from the US between February-April under Joe Biden.
Even taking into account US deportations to South America’s Northern Triangle of Honduras, El Salvador and Guatemala, which made up more than half of all deportations in March, it appears Trump is a little way behind his goal of removing a million people a year.
How many people has Trump deported so far?
Public records have shown a surge in immigration enforcement under Trump, including a sharp decline in illegal border crossings and increased immigrant arrests, but not deportation numbers.
The White House said yesterday it was on track to meet Trump’s annual target, claiming it had deported 139,000 people since the inauguration. But immigration experts say those figures don’t add up.
US Immigration and Customs Enforcement, which is required by Congress to publicly share detention and deportation information every two weeks, has reported removing less than half that number, roughly 57,000 people.
