Stay up to date with live coverage of the Trump administration Wednesday, the first day of a government shutdown that began at 12 a.m. as 44 Senate Democrats voted against a House-approved stopgap funding bill.
The legislation needs 60 votes to clear the Senate’s legislative filibuster, meaning five additional Democrats must break ranks to end the shutdown.
The Senate also voted along party lines Wednesday morning to nix a Dem funding bill to reopen the government.
