The war in Iran has led to higher prices at the gas pump.
Gas prices in the United States, up by more than 40% since the U.S. and Israel launched the war, have soared as the global oil supply constricts.
Now at a national average of more than $4 per gallon, according to data from motor club AAA, this price increase is straining already-stretched budgets in households across the country.
NBC News is tracking gas prices and how they change at the national, state and county levels, and will be updating this article daily with the latest data.
Average gas prices have increased more than a dollar since the U.S. and Israel first attacked Iran.
In six states — Alaska, California, Hawaii, Oregon, Nevada and Washington — average gas prices are at more than $5 per gallon. Indiana, Mississippi and Texas are paying the least, according to AAA data. According to a Brown University analysis, the increase in gas prices since the start of the war has cost Americans more than $50 billion.
Fuel costs aren’t limited to gas. Jet fuel prices have been surging as well, leading airlines to increase airfares.
Oil prices have spiked, then see-sawed, were approaching pre-war levels, and are now surging again as turmoil in the Middle East continues. Since mid-May, the average national gas price has decline by around 30 cents. The average price is still up more than a dollar per gallon since the start of the war.
