Today in Focus talks to three teenagers, and technology reporter Josh Taylor, about Australia’s world-first legislation: a social media ban for under-16s
Millions of Australian under-16s will be cut off from social media on Wednesday.
As our technology reporter Josh Taylor explains, it comes after months of campaigning across the country, and on a swell of popular support, with parents and politicians worried about the harmful impact of social media on children.
But one group are not so keen. Australian teenagers themselves feel their voices have been completely ignored.
Today in Focus hears from Sarai Ades,14; Ezra Sholl, 15; and Ewan Constable, 15, about how they use social media, what it means to them … and whether they’ll find a way around the ban regardless.
And Annie Kelly asks is the ban workable? If it works, will countries around the world follow suit?
