Ross and his son Archie go to Scotland matches together
A former Queen of the South and Motherwell goalkeeper only managed to get his hands on a ticket to Hampden thanks to snow in Shetland.
Dumfries-based Ross Hyslop, who is now a firefighter, landed the ticket because a fan in Shetland was unable to leave the island after becoming snowed in.
The 34-year-old, who also played for Scunthorpe United, said the 4-2 win over Denmark was an "I was there moment".
"It was so surreal and even now it doesn't feel real," he told BBC Scotland News.
"I feel sorry for the guy who couldn't make it but I was in amongst his friends hugging and celebrating with these strangers from Shetland. It was a night for everyone to come together and it was truly special."
Hyslop trained alongside fellow Dumfries footballer Grant Hanley, who was drafted into the starting line-up after John Souter suffered an injury during the pre-match warm-up.
Ross spoke with Grant's family at the match and said he was delighted for his childhood friend.
"To see a boy from Dumfries who's worked so, so hard to achieve this dream is unbelievable."

Patriotic BBC Radio Scotland presenter Michelle McManus recorded her full Afternoons show with her face painted in a saltire design and dressed in a full Scotland football kit.
She had vowed to do the stunt if Scotland managed to beat Denmark on Tuesday night.
Labour's MP for the Western Isles, Torcuil Crichton, took the opportunity to ask a cheeky, football-themed question at Prime Minister's Questions earlier.
He said: "When the Prime Minister next meets with the President of the United States, can he ask him if he knows any reasonably priced hotels near the MetLife Stadium in New Jersey where the World Cup final is to be held?"
It brought a smile from Keir Starmer, but the PM was keeping his cards close to his chest!
Two of the Tartan Army's most dedicated fans have been speaking on Radio Scotland's Lunchtime Live.
Hamish Husband says he hugged fans all around him at the game: "I was crying, I was weeping, I looked around at other people crying.
"It was stunning."
Hamish's son Elliot tells the programme "I'm still struggling to comprehend it.
"My voice is gone since the fourth one went in last night."
He adds: "The stars really aligned, didn't they?"
Last Dinner Party played at the Barrowlands last night
Stephen McGill had tickets to see Last Dinner Party at Glasgow's Barrowlands last night. So despite being at Hampden for the Greece and Belarus games, he couldn't be there for the Denmark clash.
Instead, he watched the first half in a pub, then relied on BBC Sport Scotland alerts to keep him updated during the gig.
"When it went to 2-2 I thought that was it," the Kilmarnock man told us.
"Suddenly there was a burst of mid-song cheering rippling right through the crowd and people jumping up and down.
"I looked to see that Tierney had scored but there were still a few minutes of added time to go.
"I gave in and put the live feed on just in time to see McLean’s shot sailing over Kasper Schmeichel into the net. Clearly other folk had done the same as a huge roar went up.
"To be fair to LDP they yelled out their congratulations too, and as the band left the stage Yes, Sir I can Boogie blared out over the PA and the Barrowlands was bouncing!"

Darren Calder, from the North East Scotland Tartan Army, is ecstatic over Scotland's victory
Fans' reaction to Scotland's incredible victory last night continues to come in thick and fast.
Darren Calder, from the North East Scotland Tartan Army, was at the match and he says "it couldn't have gone any more to plan".
Darren admits that when Denmark scored their second goal he thought it was all over for Scotland.
"Then the last five minutes of that game… I've never felt anything like it.
"It was just unbelieveable."
"When Kenny McLean scored from the halfway line it was just bedlam," he adds.
Darren says he will definitely be going to the World Cup, although he might have to go to "the bank of mum"!

Tickets are going to be very tricky to come by for these World Cup finals.
There has already been a pre-sale for those who were confident enough that Scotland might make it.
There will be more tickets available to the public after the draw and of course thousands of tickets will be made available to the associations – in this case the SFA (Scottish Football Association) for those who are members of the Travel Club. Even if you are a member, there are no guarantees.
Get ready USA, Canada and Mexico, the Tartan Army are coming. Mark Donaldson, who is a sports commentator for ESPN in the US, has this advice on the BBC's Lunchtime Live for Scottish fans: "Just come and enjoy it.
"You don't have to go to all the games, there will be viewing platforms all over the place.
"Just start with a trip to the east coast… just come and enjoy the party.
He adds: "Go to Fifa.com/tickets and make sure you register now."
Former Scotland star Pat Nevin said it was emotional
Former Scotland player Pat Nevin says last night's win over Denmark was "spine-tingling".
Speaking on Mornings on BBC Radio Scotland, the former Chelsea and Everton star said: "I was trying to think back, is there any game like that, that has had that affect on me in my entire life? There's been very few, if there's any.
"You could not talk about that game and the players without saying emotional.
"The Tartan Army turned up, and they made the noise, they stuck with the team and it was amazing. There was so much emotion there. There was so much emotion on the field.
"Everyone's going to have different moments that are going to live with them.
"For me the moment is going to be Clarky's face at the end of it, engulfed by his players, and the utter ecstatic joy that he's showing, which basically just reflected what all of us were feeling.
"How many days do you live in your life that you'll never forget, that was one of them."

With 11pm and 2am kick-off times a possibility, the Scottish Lib Dems are calling for pubs to be given special late night licences during next year's finals.
Party leader Alex Cole-Hamilton says he wants the government and councils to work together to give fans the best experience – including huge TV screens set up in stadiums and parks.
Keir Starmer began Prime Minister's Questions at Westminster by paying tribute to the Scotland football team, saying: "Let me start by congratulating Scotland on their magnificent victory last night. Qualifying for the World Cup for the first time since 1998."
Raucous cheers in the chamber led the Commons Speaker Sir Lindsay Hoyle to joke that he did not realise all the MPs were from Scotland.
The PM added: "They qualified with fantastic goals including a cracker from former Arsenal player Kiernan Tierney who was always a great favourite with the fans."

Ben from Glenrothes sent us this photo of fans at Hampden. "Sore back, sore head, sore feet," he told us. "Worth it to be there to see that ball leave McLean's foot."
Meanwhile, Scott in Kilmarnock said: "Had to crack a bottle of red wine after the final whistle last night to celebrate, not much work being done this morning due to a sore head but it doesn't matter because WE'RE GOING TO THE WORLD CUP! I keep welling up every time I think about it. The relief, the euphoria, THE BEST TEAM EVER!"
And Paddy in Edinburgh said: "Incredible night at Hampden and in the most Scotland way ever. All the emotions in the last 15 or so minutes. Now a very long day at work with a worsening throat and about 3 hours sleep. Well worth it!"

An acrobatic effort from Scott McTominay gave Scotland the perfect start against Denmark – and set the tone for what was to come.
Manager Steve Clarke said it was the best overhead kick he'd ever seen, but admitted that it might not even have been the best goal of the night.
After Denmark equalised from the penalty spot, Lawrence Shankland nudged in a Lewis Ferguson corner to give Scotland the lead a second time – only for the Danes to equalise again.
But then a stunning finish from Kieran Tierney and an audacious last-minute Kenny McLean strike from the half-way line gave Scotland the win they needed.

Scotland fans have been calling in to Mornings on BBC Radio Scotland.
Iain: "It's just amazing, I'm still in shock like the rest of the nation. It's been such a long time. It's brilliant for the whole nation and the new generation coming through, that we qualified.
"To do it in such style, absolutely amazing."
Katrina: "The emotions were up and down with each goal. The dog was like 'what the hell is going on with you?'.
"I've spent a lot of time watching on the sidelines freezing. I think I'm due the glory and joy of this morning."
Jordan: All day yesterday I couldn't breathe from nerves, then last night was unbelievable.
"You couldn't have wrote a better script."
Scottish fans began looking at flights to the USA, Canada and Mexico as soon as Kenny McLean made it 4-2 with just seconds to go.
According to Simon Calder, travel correspondent for the Independent, it might be worth booking a transatlantic flight to any host city, then navigating domestic flights when we know more about where Scotland matches will be staged.
"It's never too early to start planning travel to a big sporting event," he told BBC Radio's Good Morning Scotland programme.
"Sixteen days from now… all of this will be revealed at least at the group stages, at which point prices for flights and accommodation will go stratospheric.
"So you could – and this is my strategy – take a guess on a transatlantic flight now."
