Need a place to stay for the World Cup? Try a GA Tech dorm room – USA Today

April 22, 2026 by quixnet

Do you have tickets to the FIFA 2026 World Cup in Atlanta this summer but aren’t sure where to stay? Try going back to college.
The Georgia Institute of Technology is opening its doors to soccer fans in June and July with “Soccer Stays GT Summer Lodging,” a program that allows anyone to rent out a room in student housing.
Registration for singles has opened, and registration for groups or families will be opening soon, according to the university.
Here’s what to know.
“Soccer Stays” at Georgia Tech opens the North Avenue East Apartments student housing unit to the public on a by-room basis.
When you book a room, you have access to a single room, single occupant space within a four- or six-bedroom unit. You will share a bathroom with one other person and a living room and small kitchen with the rest of the unit.
Each room — that are private and lockable — continues a twin XL bed with an adjustable frame, desk, desk chair, dresser, wardrobe, ceiling light and linen set. If you’re staying more than five nights, you can have your linens swapped every five days for fresh sheets.
There are also free laundry facilities on the first floor, but detergent is not provided.
The North Avenue East Apartments are 1.8 miles away from Mercedes-Benz stadium where the tournament matches will be played, and where fan events will be hosted throughout the tournament.
You can begin renting a room as soon as June 1, nearly two weeks before the tournament arrives in Atlanta. The rooms will also be available until July 31, after the tournament has finished.
A general rate for a single person is $237 per night, which includes linens and breakfast. There are additional add-ons available such as parking passes and BuzzFunds which can be used at Georgia Tech dining halls.
There is a discounted rate for people staying more than 14 nights or if you are affiliated with the university. The discounted rate is $189 per night for a single occupant.
Bookings for groups or families will be announced at a later time, according to the university.
Atlanta will be host to eight matches over the month-long tournament, including five group stage matches, one Round of 32 match, one Round of 16 match and a semifinal match.
At least two of the matches will include Spain, a tournament favorite led by Lamine Yamal at just 18 years old. Yamal plays for FC Barcelona as a right midfielder.
He is considered one of the best players in the world, and he will be hitting the pitch with his teammates on June 15 and June 21 in the group stage. There is also a chance they will play in Atlanta in the tournament semifinal on July 15. The eyes of the world will be on those matches.
