Michael Jung (GER) has announced the passing of his former top horse, Sam FBW (Stan the Man). “This evening, I lost one of my best friends, Sam…” Jung wrote.

“We achieved so many goals together! For years, I found happiness every single day thanks to this horse. Thank you for 20 years together—you will be missed immensely!”
As a six- and seven-year-old, the gelding won silver medals in consecutive years at the World Championships for Young Eventing Horses. In 2009, he immediately secured an individual title at the FEI European Championships. The following year, Sam FBW and Jung were crowned World Champions in Kentucky!
The gelding’s track record is endless. To this day, Sam is the only horse to hold World, European, and Olympic titles simultaneously! Additionally, the gelding won the Badminton Horse Trials in 2016, marking his third five-star victory. Following the Rio Olympics, Sam retired from competitive sport.
Our deepest condolences to everyone who was connected to Sam FBW.
