QatarEnergy could restore normal gas operations within a few weeks of the Strait of Hormuz reopening, though the disruption could delay some expansion projects by blocking deliveries of critical equipment, CEO Saad al-Kaabi said on Sunday.
QatarEnergy is producing only a “very minute” volume of liquefied natural gas, Kaabi said at the Qatar Economic Forum in New York.
Several LNG trains under the North Field East expansion are scheduled to begin operating in 2027, with production from the North Field South expansion expected to start in 2028, Kaabi said.

Iran’s parliament National Security and Foreign Policy Committee approved a provision in a bill covering security and development of the Strait of Hormuz, its spokesman Hassan Ghashghavi said on Sunday.
Under Article 10 of the bill, construction, operation and expansion of communications and information technology infrastructure, including fiber-optic networks, in the Strait of Hormuz area would require approval from the Islamic Republic’s relevant authorities, Ghashghavi said.
Iran does not want war but will not yield to force or intimidation and remains committed to its agreements despite distrusting its “adversaries,” President Masoud Pezeshkian said on Sunday.
“We do not want war and conflict and consider them harmful not only to the people of our country but to the world. At the same time, we will in no way yield to force and bullying,” Pezeshkian added.
He said Iran should not reject peace when offered because it can provide security, but warned that an “adversary” could use negotiations as a means to inflict harm.
“We have no trust whatsoever in the enemy, but we remain committed to our agreements,” Pezeshkian said.
US President Donald Trump said he is weighing his next steps on Iran and expects “very big things” to happen soon, Fox News reported on Sunday following an interview with the president.
“My question is, if and when, do I blow the entire nation up? They better behave,” Trump told Fox News.
Trump described the options under consideration as “wiping Iran out,” allowing the country to “rot economically,” or reaching a deal, according to the network.
Trump also said he would probably be open to meeting Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian during the UN General Assembly this week and described himself as being in a “deciding mode” over Iran.
The United States pledged support for Saudi Arabia following Houthi attacks and said it was consulting closely with the kingdom, the State Department told Iran International on Sunday.
“The United States stands firmly with the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia against Houthi terrorism. We are in close consultation with our Saudi partners and remain committed to their security,” a State Department spokesperson told Iran International.
The response came after Iran International asked whether Washington planned punitive measures against the Houthis or Iran.
Iran has deployed rapid-response and other army units across several frontier regions, with forces concentrated along its northwestern, western, southwestern, eastern and northeastern borders and the Makran coast, the army’s ground forces commander Ali Jahanshahi said.
Special forces, rapid-response, mechanized and artillery units are operating in border areas with the necessary support, the commander added.
Iran closed a French language centre affiliated with the French embassy after a court order, accusing it of operating without a licence and conducting activities against national security and Iranian culture on Sunday.
The centre had continued teaching foreign languages despite repeated instructions to obtain a licence, the Tehran prosecutor’s office said, according to the IRGC-linked Tasnim news agency.
Authorities accused the centre of identifying and developing networks of people and helping skilled Iranians leave the country.
Russia drew up plans to deepen cooperation with Iran across finance, nuclear energy, aviation, energy and transport through 2026, according to a government document obtained and reviewed by Fox News.
The 44-page document, marked “For official use” and approved on the Russian side in September 2024, assigns ministries, agencies and state companies responsibility for a range of projects.
The roadmap includes expanding payments in national currencies and independent financial channels, Russian involvement at Iran’s Bushehr nuclear plant and potential production of Russian aircraft components in Iran.
Several initiatives outlined in the document subsequently advanced publicly, although it does not establish which projects remain active.
