India’s navy, air force and army have been instructed to observe the ceasefire with Pakistan, said Indian Navy Captain Ravi Nair.
“You are aware that our responses have been measured,” he told a press conference today. “Every misadventure by Pakistan has been met with strength, and every future escalation will invite a decisive response.
He added that India remained “fully operationally” and “ready to launch whatever operations may be required in defense of the nation.”
Indian Wing Commander Vyomika Singh accused Pakistan of attempting to spread “a misinformation campaign,” and said claims that a number of airbases were destroyed were “completely false.”
Colonel Sofiya Qureshi also rebuked claims that India had targeted Pakistani mosques.
“I want to make it clear that India is a secular nation and our army is a beautiful representation of our constitutional values,” she said. “Indian armed forces delivered a heavy blow to Pakistan military infrastructure, be it their air or land assets.”
The ceasefire between India and Pakistan began at 5 p.m. local time today (7.30 a.m. ET), Indian Foreign Secretary Vikram Misri said in a statement following Trump’s announcement of the ceasefire.
“It was agreed that both sides would stop all firing and military action on land and in the air and sea with effect from 1700 hours Indian standard time today,” Misri said.
Secretary of State Marco Rubio says India and Pakistan have agreed to an immediate ceasefire and to start talks on “a broad set of issues at a neutral site.”
In a post on X, he commended the nations’ two prime ministers on “their wisdom, prudence, and statesmanship in choosing the path of peace.”
Rubio said that he and Vice President JD Vance had spent 48 hours with “senior Indian and Pakistani officials,” including Prime Ministers Narendra Modi and Shehbaz Sharif, ahead of the ceasefire.
Pakistan and India have agreed to a ceasefire with immediate effect, says Pakistan’s Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister, Ishaq Dar.
“Pakistan has always strived for peace and security in the region, without compromising on its sovereignty and territorial integrity!” he posted on X.
His post came just ten minutes after President Trump announced the ceasefire on Truth Social.
President Donald Trump says India and Pakistan have agreed to a ceasefire, following “a long night of talks mediated by the United States.”
“I am pleased to announce that India and Pakistan have agreed to a FULL AND IMMEDIATE CEASEFIRE,” Trump wrote on Truth Social. “Congratulations to both Countries on using Common Sense and Great Intelligence.”

At least 13 civilians were killed in Pakistani Kashmir in 12 hours until noon on Saturday, the region’s disaster authority said, as India and Pakistan traded fire after Islamabad’s military action against India in the early hours of the day.
More than 50 people were also injured in the region, the authority said.
Tensions between India and Pakistan, both of who rule Kashmir in part, have escalated since India struck “terrorist infrastructure” in Pakistan on Wednesday.
Pakistan information minister Attaullah Tarah said Pakistan has “the right to respond” in an interview with BBC News.
Earlier today, India’s Ministry of Defense accused Pakistan of “endangering civilians and religious sites” after it said Pakistan targeted Shambhu Temple and other residential areas in India-administered Kashmir.
“Pakistan is not the provocateur,” Tarah told the BBC, adding that his country had only targeted military installations.
Pakistan’s foreign minister said Saturday that his country would consider de-escalation if India stopped further attacks, hours after India also said it was committed to de-escalation if Pakistan held fire.
If they stop here, we will also consider stopping,” Ishaq Dar told Pakistan’s Geo News. “We responded because our patience had reached its limit.”
Dar said he had also conveyed this message to U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio, who contacted him after speaking with Indian External Affairs Minister Subrahmanyam Jaishankar earlier.
India’s Wing Commander Vyomika Singh had said at press conference earlier today that India’s armed forces “reiterated their commitment to non-escalation, provided the Pakistan side reciprocates.”
However, she said the Pakistan army was observed “moving its troops towards forward areas, indicating an offensive intent to further escalation.”

Pakistan’s Director General Inter Services Public Relations (ISPR), Lieutenant General Ahmed Sharif Chaudhry, has accused India of targeting “its own population” in Indian Punjab.
“A short while ago, India fired six ballistic missiles from Adampur,” he said “One of the missiles fell within Adampur itself, while five landed in Amritsar.”
“India is targeting its own population with ballistic missiles and is deliberately hitting Sikh-populated areas in Indian Punjab.”
General Ahmed Sharif also accused India of launching missiles and drone attacks on “Afghan territory.”
“India, through its madness, aggression, and deceit, is dragging the entire region toward a dangerous war,” he said.
He added that India had fired missiles targeting three Pakistan Air Force bases, saying his nation’s air defense systems had “successfully intercepted” the attack.

India’s chief minister of India-administered Kashmir, Omar Abdullah, said on X that government official Raj Kumar Thappa has been killed by Pakistan shelling.
“Today the residence of the officer was hit by Pak shelling as they targeted Rajouri town killing our Additional District Development Commissioner Sh Raj Kumar Thappa,” he said.
“I’ve no words to express my shock & sadness at this terrible loss of life. May his soul rest in peace.”
Secretary of State Marco Rubio has proposed U.S. support to “avert future disputes” between India and Pakistan as he called for both sides to de-escalate.
State Department spokesperson Tammy Bruce said in a readout that Rubio had spoken to India’s Foreign Minister Subrahmanyam Jaishankar, and had emphasized that “both sides need to identify methods to de-escalate and re-establish direct communication to avoid miscalculation.”
He had earlier spoken to Pakistani Army Chief Asim Muir, according to Bruce, also urging deescalation, and offering U.S. assistance to start peace talks.

Colonel Sofiya Quresh, a spokesperson for the Indian Army, says Pakistan used high-speed missiles early this morning, and that Pakistan was “continuously attacking the western borders.”
“[Pakistan’s army] has used drones, long-range weapons, loitering munitions and fighter jets to attack India’s military sites,” she said at a joint press conference held by Indians Foreign and Defense ministries. “India neutralized many dangers, but Pakistan tried to infiltrate via Air at more than 26 places,” she added, saying the attacks had damaged at four air force bases.
“They used high-speed missiles at 1:40 am to target Punjab’s air base,” she said. “They even attacked health facilities and schools.”
Wing commander Vyomika Singh added that the Pakistan army was observed “moving its troops towards forward areas, indicating an offensive intent to further escalation.”

The Airports Authority of India announced it had closed 32 airports across the north and west of the country until May 15.
Earlier this morning, Pakistan’s Airports Authority temporarily closed the nation’s airspace early this morning shortly after it claimed Indian air strikes had hit three of its airbases.
It said it closed the nation’s airspace to all traffic from 3 a.m. local time until 12 p.m.

Tensions escalated overnight between India and Pakistan as Pakistan said it had launched retaliatory action against India.
Pakistan’s government press office told NBC News that it had targeted and destroyed a missile storage site, an air base, and an airfield inside India near the border. It also said it had launched a cyber operation, claiming to have hacked several Indian government websites.
India’s army said early this morning on X that it had intercepted Pakistani drone strikes near its western border.
India’s Ministry of Defense also said on X that Pakistan had targeted Shambhu Temple and residential areas in Kashmir overnight, accusing it over “endangering civilians and religious sites.” Indian Border Security also accused Pakistan of opening fire on security posts in Kashmir.
In Pakistan, an NBC News producer heard more than two dozen heavy explosions in Peshawar, reportedly the result of air defense systems targeting Indian drones.
