Flight searches to World Cup cities spike on KAYAK. Where Atlanta ranks – USA Today

May 14, 2026 by quixnet

In just one month, soccer fans from around the world will be hitting the streets of Atlanta as they head toward Mercedes-Benz Stadium (referred to as Atlanta Stadium).
The FIFA 2026 World Cup kicks off in the Peach State on June 15, but there are still some fans from in and out of the country trying to plan their travel for this summer.
According to travel company KAYAK, searches for flights to Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport have spiked 26% for the time period of World Cup, compared to searches for the same days last year.
Here’s how the city compares.
Searches for flights to all of the host cities overall is up 22%, according to KAYAK’s soccer travel portal, but there are major differences between individual cities.
At 26%, Atlanta’s search interest went up the eighth most compared to the other host cities.
Monterrey, Mexico saw the largest increase in flight search interest year-over-year, with a 166% increase, according to KAYAK. Kansas City, Missouri came in second with a 124% search increase compared to 2025, and Guadalajara, Mexico was third with a 72% increase.
Dallas, Texas and Houston, Texas cam in fourth and fifth, followed by Mexico City, Mexico ranking sixth and Boston, Massachusetts ranking seventh.
Atlanta took the eighth spot, followed by Newark, New Jersey and San Francisco, California to round out the top ten.
Here are the countries most searching for flights to Atlanta, and how much they are paying (on average) for a plane ticket.
International, and non-local domestic fans, will need to find places to stay once arriving in Atlanta, and KAYAK data shows the prices of hotels have spiked for the tournament dates. Overall, prices for hotels in host cities are up 35%, on average.
In Atlanta, the average price of a hotel room is up 43%, hitting about $280 per night. This is the eighth highest price of any host city, but definitely not the most significant change.
Prices for hotels in Kansas City are up 117%, according to KAYAK data, averaging about $400 per night. Three Mexico host cities are all up over 100% change, but their hotel prices are some of the lowest, just more than $200 per night.
If you’d prefer an Airbnb to a hotel, those prices are also higher in Atlanta during the World Cup, and locals can estimate their profits using a profit tracker from the company.
Mercedes-Benz Stadium (Atlanta Stadium) will host five group stage matches, a round of 32 match, a round of 16 match and one of the tournament’s semifinal match.
