Trump told reporters on Tuesday, July 8 he planned to go to the match at the East Rutherford stadium, according to USA TODAY. NBC News also confirmed the news, citing a senior administration official.
The news comes as FIFA announced Monday, July 7 it was opening an office at Trump Tower in New York City.
Trump and FIFA president Gianni Infantino have forged strong ties as the U.S. hosts this summer’s Club World Cup and most of next year’s men’s World Cup. The duo has been spotted together at the White House and Florida’s Mar-a-Lago, and Infantino accompanied the president on his trip to the Middle East earlier this year.
Chelsea and Fluminense were duking it out on Tuesday, July 8 to earn a spot in the competition’s showpiece, while Paris Saint-Germain and Real Madrid will go head-to-head in the second semi on July 9.
