A dramatic and entertaining Day 8 of the 2026 Milan Cortina Games saw seven Winter Olympics gold medals handed out.
American-born Chinese athlete Eileen Gu qualified for the women's freeski big air final despite a fall in her second qualifying run.
In the women's curling, Switzerland edged past Canada 8-7 in controversial circumstances, and the U.S. beat Japan 7-4; USA's men beat Germany 8-6 and the Swiss beat Canada 9-5.
Earlier for Team USA, Jordan Stolz took 500m speedskating gold with an Olympic-record 33.77 and skiers Jaelin Kauf and Elizabeth Lemley won dual moguls silver and bronze.
In ice hockey, the U.S. men beat Denmark 6-3, while Canada's women routed Germany 5-1 to reach the semifinals.
Jack Hughes with a beautiful display of skating and ends the play with a back shot that makes it 6-3. That is a wrap.
I think one of the positives for Team USA so far has been the play of Hughes.
He's not 100 percent and we know this, but he's looked electric at times in these first two games.
If Team USA is going to win a gold medal, I think they'll need Hughes to play a significant role.
It's a win for the Americans, and a relatively convincing one. But make no mistake, this has not been a great performance.
Yeah, it wasn't massively pretty, but the United States will be relieved to secure a 6-3 win against Denmark in the men's ice hockey preliminaries.
They trailed the Danes but pulled clear in the third period.
A W is a W.

And that's the result in the men's hockey!
Let's head over to the rink…
Heading into the tournament, most fans expected either the Czech Republic or Finland to win the Olympic bronze medal.
Both teams have been eliminated in the quarterfinals by Sweden and Switzerland.
No. 5 Switzerland completes the upset over No. 4 Finland in the last women's Olympic hockey tournament quarterfinal.
Alina Müller with the lone goal in a 1-0 win for the Swiss. Andrea Brändli had a massive 40-save shutout.
Müller, just 27 years old, is now up to 15 career goals at the Olympics.
That's three back from Canada's Marie-Philip Poulin, who just scored her 18th to tie HHOF forward Hayley Wickenheiser for the all-time record.
On the men's side, the United States leads Denmark 4-3 in the third period of their preliminary clash, covered live in our match-specific coverage here.
On the women's side, Finland trail Switzerland 1-0 in the quarterfinal.
Let's check in.

As is Hwang's silver and the bronze for Kruzbergs.
Brit Niall Treacy is penalised for a lane change, causing the crash to China's Sun Long, and that is the end of the penalties.
I should stress that this result is as things stand, pending the final result after the video referee's review.
Poor old Jens van 't Wout of the Netherlands is smiling in disbelief, unsure of whether he can celebrate.
He waves the Dutch flag to his fans.
“Holland! Holland!” sing the Orange-tinted supporters.
It's gold for the Netherlands and Jens van 't Wout! 2:12.21, three seconds outside the Olympic record, was the winning time.
South Korea's Hwang Daeheon takes the silver medal, Roberts Kruzbergs of Latvia the bronze.
William Dandjinou of Canada finished fifth, Brit Niall Treacy and Canada's Steven Dubois well back after crashing.
China's Liu Shaoang and Sun Long did not finish.
Niall Treacy leads the nine out. William Dandjinou behind him.
Canada's Steven Dubois is out! As is Treacy! Loads for the video referees to look at…
Let's go!
Luca Spechenhauser of Italy wins the B final of the 1500m short track speedskating.
USA's Andrew Heo second, countryman Brandon Kim sixth of seven.
Now it's time for the A final.
Here comes William Dandjinou of Canada, one of the favorites…
American Brandon Kim is in the ‘B final’ for the men's short track speedskating. Compatriot Andrew Heo involved too.
This is to decide 10th place, with the ‘A final’ (the real final, deciding the medals), involving nine athletes, coming shortly after.
And we're off. It's a slow start as the athletes look to conserve their energy and pick up slipstream.
There’s something about an athlete being under the greatest pressure of their career and transcending it.
A piece on Domen Prevc delivering on his promise, eyeing history, and providing Olympic ski-jumping with a signature moment. What a thrill.

In the women's hockey quarterfinal, Alina Müller opens the scoring for Switzerland in the quarterfinals against Finland.
One of the best players in the PWHL, (Boston Fleet) is shining on the Olympic stage once again.
And in the women's 3000m relay, a little similar to the madison cycling event, Canada sneak into Wednesday's final!
South Korea wins the semifinal, Canada second.
China and Japan are knocked out.
South Korea, Canada, and the two semifinal qualifiers Netherlands and Italy will be in the final in four days' time.
