A man at Universal’s Epic Universe in Orlando died Wednesday after riding a roller coaster at the new theme park, park officials said in a statement.
Kevin Rodriguez Zavala, 32, was found unresponsive on the Stardust Racers roller coaster, and his cause of death is multiple blunt impact injuries, according to the medical examiner for Orange and Osceola Counties.
The Orange County Sheriff’s Office said off-duty deputies found a man on the ride and transported him to the hospital, where he was pronounced dead.
A Universal spokesperson said the park is cooperating with the Sheriff’s Office’s investigation.
“We are devastated by this tragic event and extend our sincerest sympathies to the guest’s loved ones,” a spokesperson for Universal said in a statement
The attraction remains closed, according to the statement.
Epic Universe opened in May and features a slew of new attractions, including Nintendo World and The Wizarding World of Harry Potter’s Ministry of Magic.
Epic Universe and NBC News share the same parent company, NBCUniversal.
