Americans are learning this summer that that military bases near their homes have delayed for as much as 20 years the cleanup of toxic perfluoroalkyl and polyfluoroalkyl chemicals. Also known as PFAS, these “forever chemicals” pollute drinking water and increase the risk of certain cancers.
In an exclusive investigation, USA TODAY compiled records of the delays and built an interactive dashboard with maps and timelines showing where cleanup has been delayed and for how long.

For U.S. tourists abroad and Europeans alike, wildfires pose a threat as blazes threaten the French city of Bordeaux while crews in Spain struggle to control a series of forest blazes raging since last week. And more extreme heat is on the way for the region.
Health & Wellness
Even a small trigger can set off more sensitive sweat glands that respond easily to heat, stress or physical activity, experts say, let alone ongoing summer temperatures. Sweating is simply the body’s mechanism for cooling itself, but if you’re on the third T-shirt of the day, it could be a sign you’re producing above-average sweat.
