June 18, 2026 by quixnet

Welcome to the Daily Briefing. Here’s what’s breaking this morning:
Nicole Fallert here, bringing you the news to know on Wednesday, including updated election results from across the country.
Dangerous flooding continues Wednesday across Texas as forecasters track a tropical disturbance that could strengthen into the Atlantic season’s first named storm.
The National Hurricane Center said the system has a high chance of developing into a tropical system as it moves along the Texas coast Wednesday. Heavy rainfall is expected to continue from Texas into parts of Louisiana and Mississippi, where flood watches are also in effect. The flooding threat comes as the 2026 FIFA World Cup continues across North America, including matches scheduled this week in Houston.
World Cup
Lionel Messi led Argentina to glory with a 3-0 win over Algeria in the opening game of the 2026 World Cup on Tuesday. Messi netted a hat trick, which helped him tie the all-time goal scoring record in World Cup history.

Kasia Gay, 69, spends her retirement picking up her grandchildren from school and doing her son’s family’s laundry. Gay is one of millions of grandparents providing free child care for their adult children. New data from an AARP survey found that among the 65 million grandparents in the United States, 15% care for their grandkids daily or almost daily.
