Millions of Americans who rely on the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) and the Special Supplemental Nutrition Program for Women, Infants and Children, known as WIC, could be left scrambling for food come November.
The latest: The U.S. Department of Agriculture has warned for weeks that food assistance could be in jeopardy if the shutdown continues. But a prominent new message on its website Monday said no benefits will be issued on Nov. 1.

U.S. Customs and Border Patrol’s Commander at-Large Gregory Bovino, the head of President Donald Trump’s Operation Midway Blitz, is set to answer questions on Tuesday about whether federal agents are defying a judge’s orders to limit use of chemical weapons on protesters. The testimony was ordered after a video taken by an anti-immigration protester and linked to in court filings shows tear gas being used on protesters.
President Donald Trump appears to have picked up another Nobel Peace Prize nomination — this time from the new Japanese prime minister, Sanae Takaichi. She told him during a meeting in Tokyo that she plans to put his name forward for the distinguished award. Takaichi and Trump also watched the beginning of the World Series.
