Iran suspends cooperation with UN nuclear agency
Iran’s President Masoud Pezeshkian has granted final approval to a law to suspend cooperation with the United Nations nuclear watchdog, state media said Wednesday.
“Masoud Pezeshkian promulgated the law suspending cooperation with the International Atomic Energy Agency,” state TV said, meaning the measure drawn up in the aftermath of the Iran-Israel war last month is now in effect.
IED planted by Naxalites explodes in Chhattisgarh’s Bijapur; man injured
A 32-year-old villager was seriously injured after a pressure improvised explosive device (IED) planted by Naxalites went off in Chhattisgarh’s Bijapur district, police said on Wednesday.
The incident took place on Tuesday evening when the victim, identified as Vishal Gote Hemla, resident of Motlaguda village under Madded police station limits, went to a nearby forest in Pegdapalli village to collect mushroom forest produce, a police official said.

Indian envoy meets Brazil President Lula, discusses PM Modi’s upcoming visit
India’s ambassador to Brazil, Dinesh Bhatia, presented credentials to Brazil’s President Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva and discussed deepening of bilateral strategic partnership and Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s upcoming visit to the country.
PM Modi is travelling to Brazil at the invitation of Lula da Silva. This will be the prime minister’s fourth visit to the Latin American nation. The 17th BRICS Leaders’ Summit will be held in Brazil’s Rio de Janeiro from July 6 to 7.
In a post on X, the Indian embassy stated, “Amb @dineshbhatia presented credentials to President @LulaOficial and discussed deepening of bilateral Strategic Partnership as well as PM @narendramodi’s upcoming participation in BRICS Summit, followed by State Visit to Brazil.”

First batch of Amarnath Yatra pilgrims flagged off
Jammu and Kashmir Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha on Wednesday flagged off the first batch of 5,892 Amarnath pilgrims amid multi-tier security cover, marking the beginning of this year’s pilgrimage from here.
The batch, which includes 1,115 women, 31 children and 16 transgenders, left the base camp in the first batch at 4:30 am to join the annual Amarnath pilgrimage, officials said.
The yatra will conclude on August 9.
More than 3.31 lakh devotees have registered so far for this year’s Amarnath Yatra, officials said.

Turkish authorities on Tuesday detained a former mayor and dozens of municipality officials in the western city of Izmir over alleged corruption, extending a crackdown against the country’s main opposition party.
Police detained 120 officials from the opposition Republican People’s Party, or CHP, including former Izmir Mayor Tunc Soyer and the party’s provincial leader Senol Aslanoglu, state-run Anadolu Agency said. In total, the Izmir Public Prosecutor’s Office issued arrest warrants against 157 officials as part of an investigation into alleged rigging of municipality tenders and fraud, it added.
Officials from CHP-controlled municipalities in Istanbul and elsewhere have faced waves of arrests this year, including Istanbul’s Mayor Ekrem Imamoglu who was arrested in March over allegations of corruption. His arrest triggered the largest street protests Turkey has seen in more than a decade.
