The Blue Jays are looking to even the 2025 World Series after the Dodgers’ epic Game 3 win across 18 innings last night.
After a Kiké Hernández sacrifice fly gave the Dodgers an early lead, Vladimir Guerrero Jr. hit a two-run homer in the third inning to put the Blue Jays in front. Toronto added another four runs in the seventh after chasing Shohei Ohtani, who was making the first World Series start of his career.

It took until the ninth, but the Dodgers have their first extra-base hit of the night. If the Dodgers can even get Jeff Hoffman in this game, it’s a big win for this series going forward.

This October isn’t Chris Bassitt’s first foray into a relief role. He moved into the bullpen in September in both 2018 and 2019 with the A’s as they pushed for a playoff berth and was lights out both years.
▶️ Chris Bassitt, who only threw eight pitches last night, looks very sharp tonight and is giving Toronto’s taxed bullpen a much-needed breather so far. He just struck out Freddie Freeman on three pitches, then got Will Smith to ground into a double play. Huge outs for the Jays going forward. | End 8th Blue Jays 6, Dodgers 1
▶️ Mookie Betts hits a leadoff single to left field. It may be too little, too late tonight, but the Dodgers could desperately use more from their No. 2 hitter the rest of this series. | Bottom 8th Blue Jays 6, Dodgers 1
▶️ Jack Dreyer works himself out of the jam, getting Isaiah Kiner-Falefa to ground out before striking out Myles Straw. The Dodgers have six outs to get five runs to tie (or six to win). | Mid 8th Blue Jays 6, Dodgers 1

On a personal note, cool to see MLB with some charitable outreach to the Pasadena Fire Department. That department was taxed hard by the Eaton Fire, which consumed large swaths of neighboring Altadena (my hometown) in January.
That’s not to be confused with the concurrent Palisades fire which nearly leveled Pacific Palisades, Calif., the hometown of Blue Jays backup catcher Tyler Heineman.
The Dodgers have been active in pledging funds and resources to rebuild both communities, a process still very much ongoing nearly 10 months later.
▶️ GREAT hustle from Ernie Clement. Freddie Freeman makes a diving stop on a ground ball, but his headfirst slide into first base beats the throw to Jack Dreyer? Dreyer then loses one and hits Andrés Giménez. | Top 8th Blue Jays 6, Dodgers 1

Let Chris Bassitt roll for the rest of the game and that’ll put Toronto in a really good spot for tomorrow.

▶️ Shohei Ohtani has now been retired on three straight at-bats. He is human, after all. Chris Bassitt goes 1-2-3 in the seventh, and the Blue Jays are six outs away from a massive series-tying win. | End 7th Blue Jays 6, Dodgers 1
There's really just one Halloween costume choice for Blue Jays hitting coach David Popkins. Any queeeestions?
