Carlos Alcaraz and Jannik Sinner are facing off again today in the final of the 2025 ATP Tour Finals.
It is the latest chapter in a rivalry dominating men's tennis after meetings in each of the last three Grand Slam finals; Alcaraz won at the French and U.S. Opens, while Sinner was the victor at Wimbledon.
Play has resumed after having been suspended during the first set due to a fan having a medical emergency in the stands.

Regardless of today's result, the Spaniard will end 2025 as world No. 1.

One to get the fans involved for the first point of the sixth game, Sinner giving Alcaraz a sniff with a poor volley but then putting away his speculative lob with ease. A wayward backhand — Sinner's sixth unforced error on that wing — then brings the Spaniard level in the game at 15-15.
No problems with the serve or forehand so far for the home favorite, helping him into a 40-15 lead with two quickfire points. And then a picture-perfect Sinner forehand down the line forces Alcaraz to net.
We remain on serve through six games.
According to a representative from the Italian tennis federation, the man who needed medical attention was able to walk off court and will now be checked by doctors. It's not thought to be serious at this point.

It is a long time now since Alcaraz has served in this match, but he shows no signs of rust, coming up with the serve plus one to get ahead in the game.
But two points then go the way of Sinner with the Spaniard spraying a loose backhand long. The forehand on the following point fires, though, with Sinner unable to get his return over the net.
Two more costly errors, one on both sides of the net, take us to deuce for the second game in a row. And then a brilliant backhand that just kisses the back of the baseline is too hot for Sinner to handle.
Another loose groundstroke from the Italian gives Alcaraz a third hold.

The first point back after the delay — at a key juncture in this first set — was a nervy one and another huge cheer greeted Sinner putting the volley away at the net with Alcaraz looking threatening from the baseline.
And the Italian followed it up with an ace for a big hold!

The commentator on the broadcast has informed us all that the spectator is back on their feet, and cheers ring out around the arena.
Great news.
The match is back underway now, Sinner serving at deuce.

The tournament director has been down courtside and has passed on a message to the umpire — and the two players — that the spectator in question is fine, according to the broadcast on the Tennis Channel and on Sky Sports.
They are, however, still receiving support from the medical staff, so the match is not back underway just yet.
More than 10 minutes have elapsed since the last point in the match, with the score at deuce in the fourth game.

Plenty of concern on the faces of the players, officials and spectators inside Inalpi Arena.
There is still no play at the moment, as care continues to be administered for the medical emergency in the top tier of the stands.
The umpire explains to Alcaraz that he has not been given a definitive update yet and will, of course, provide one as soon as he gets it.
Play is halted because of a medical emergency with Sinner about to serve at deuce. It's over on Alcaraz's side and he was looking up with concern. At Wimbledon this year he quickly got water to a spectator who had collapsed.

At deuce in the fourth game of the first set, there is a break in proceedings.
Alcaraz seemed pretty concerned with some shouting from the crowd and that stopped Sinner from serving. The umpire then called for medical intervention, seemingly in the top tier.
First really spectacular shot of the match as Alcaraz slaps a forehand winner up the line on the run.
He's used to a bigger reception for that kind of shot.

Wow. The first real highlight-reel shot of the match, and you won't be shocked to hear that it came from Alcaraz. A brutal Sinner forehand sent him miles outside the sideline with little chance of getting the ball back.
Well, he got that ball back and then some, threading a rocket of a forehand pass past Sinner and into the corner.
The rest of the game went without a hitch for the Spaniard who, after a love hold of his own, leads 2-1 at the first sitdown.

An excellent point from James, which explains why Sinner opted to receive rather than serve first.
And the danger of an early break for Alcaraz pretty quickly looked unlikely as the Italian benefitted from a pair of unforced errors for 30-0. A blistering ace down the T soon then made that 40-0.
His next serve took Alcaraz a long way wide, leaving him with too much to do so a love hold early on for the world No. 2.
Sinner served first and was broken in their past two competitive meetings…

The best way to begin a final? With an unreturned serve, of course! After that perfect start, Alcaraz sent a pretty routine forehand wide to give Sinner his first point of the match.
The outside-to-in forehand took the Spaniard to 30-15 and a loose Sinner backhand brought up the first game points of this final.
Alcaraz only needed one to get himself on the board — a nice nerve settler.

Carlos Alcaraz, in an-almost Brazilian yellow-and-green two piece, is the man with the balls in hand to start this first set.
At the other end of the court, Jannik Sinner is poised to receive, clad in a burgundy shirt-and-shorts combo with a dusty pink hat up top.
Let's hope for one of those classics that these two tend to serve up…
Sinner wins the toss and elects to receive. Slightly surprising choice given how well he's served this week — he's yet to be broken in his four matches — but an early way to test the Alcaraz nerves.
Huge roar for Sinner as he enters the court, polite applause for Alcaraz. For the sixth time this year, the world's two best players go head to head.
Alcaraz will be the season-ending world No. 1 whatever happens but if Sinner wins tonight, you could definitely make the case that he's had the better 2025.

Out first to a huge roar is the home favorite, Jannik Sinner, and he is followed by year-end No. 1 Carlos Alcaraz.
It is pretty rare that the Italians have one of the best players in the world to cheer for in an individual sport, so they are loving the 24-year-old right now — and rightly so!
No booing for Alcaraz — which is nice to see — but certainly no cheering…
