Alaska Airlines flights ground to a halt after carrier suffers 2nd nationwide outage since July – New York Post

October 24, 2025 by quixnet

Alaska Airlines grounded all its flights nationwide following a tech outage Thursday evening — the second time in roughly three months.
The airline announced a “temporary” ground stop over the issue and advised customers to check their flight status before heading out the door.
Alaska Airlines is experiencing an IT outage affecting operations. A temporary ground stop is in place. We apologize for the inconvenience. If you're scheduled to fly tonight, please check your flight status before heading to the airport.
“Alaska Airlines is experiencing an IT outage affecting operations. A temporary ground stop is in place,” the carrier said in a statement. “We apologize for the inconvenience. If you’re scheduled to fly tonight, please check your flight status before heading to the airport.”
It’s unclear what caused the outage, but a similar IT issue led Alaska Airlines to ground all flights for nearly three hours in July.
The ground stop is affecting Alaska Air flights, as well as its regional subsidiary Horizon Air.
Hawaiian Airlines, which was bought by Alaska Air Group last year, said its flights are operating as scheduled.
The exact number of flights affected is not yet clear.
The Seattle-based airline services flights to 140 destinations worldwide, including 37 states and 12 countries, according to its website.
Alaska Airlines and the Federal Aviation Administration did not immediately respond to The Post’s request for additional information.
Flyers took to social media to express their frustration Thursday.
“When is ETA to function normally again? Your staff cannot help anyone,” one griped.
“Alaska Airlines you continue to always disappoint,” another said.
“Everytime I think you can’t get any worse as an airline, you do. At least you fill your DEI quota though. Sure your operations might be utter shit, but at least you’re inclusive,” another user wrote on X under the airline’s announcement.
Alaska Airlines unveiled a new diversity campaign in 2021 — just before aeronautical giant Boeing began using diversity, equity and inclusion (DEI) goals as incentives for executive compensation after a focus on safety and quality controls.
In January 2024, Alaska Airlines had a near-catastrophic flight when a door panel blew off at 16,000 feet — with 174 passengers on board. The harrowing ordeal lasted about half an hour before the plane made an emergency landing.
In November of the same year, Boeing dismantled its DEI department.
This is a developing story. Please check back for updates.
