We may know this year’s championship series matchup after today — unless Georgia and West Virginia have something to say about that.
North Carolina and West Virginia begin Wednesday’s double-header at 2 p.m. ET on ESPN, with UNC just a win away from the finals. If the Mountaineers win, the two would play again on Thursday, time TBA.
In the night game, Georgia takes on Oklahoma at 7 p.m. ET on ESPN. The Sooners need to win just once to advance, while the Bulldogs have to win tonight and then again on Thursday to make the finals.
Wednesday’s games are Omaha rematches, too. North Carolina beat West Virginia on Sunday, while Oklahoma escaped against Georgia on Monday.
And then there were four.
North Carolina, Georgia, Oklahoma and West Virginia are the last four standing in the NCAA baseball tournament after WVU eliminated Troy and Georgia took out Texas on Tuesday.
Now comes the really tough part for both the Mountaineers and Bulldogs. Twenty-nine of the last 35 Men’s College World Series champs started 2-0 — and that’s what the Tar Heels and Sooners did. If West Virginia and Georgia are to advance to the championship series, WVU must top UNC twice, and UGA must defeat OU twice.
There are two games scheduled for today. Depending on how they shake out, there will be either no games, one game or another double-header on Thursday.
The MCWS Finals then start on Saturday after a Friday off day.
Here’s a look at the bracket as we go into Wednesday’s games. If North Carolina and Oklahoma win, then the championship series will be set, as West Virginia and Georgia must win twice (next games would be on Thursday).
